THERAPIST, EQUINE FACILITATOR

Tara Smith, MSW, LCSW, EFP

Tara is from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. She relocated to the United States in 2013 and has lived in three different states since then! She moved to Jacksonville, NC, in August 2019. Tara has earned two (2) Bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Criminology from McGill University and York University, respectively. Tara completed her Master of Social Work degree at Florida State University and is practicing in Jacksonville. Tara’s testimony is unique because she had no horse experience before 2020! To gain experience, Tara has volunteered at Therapeutic Riding Centers, was a ranch hand, and led trail rides. Volunteering has helped her to gain the tools and confidence to work with horses. Five years later, she purchased her first Mustang, Kai, in May 2022. She is eager to continue learning and growing up as a compassionate equestrian while working with horses. Tara has earned her certification in Equine Facilitated Therapy from The HERD Institute. She is married to her Marine, Cory Smith, and is passionate about veterans, military families, children, and their mental health. Tara’s motivation is compassionately caring for those in need and inspiring others to live authentically.
